Product Description

What is Islamic Banking and Finance:

Traditionally, Islamic and conventional banking came from two very different places – and not just geographically. Islamic banking was linked mostly to Muslim countries in the Middle East, while conventional banking was associated with non-Muslim, Western countries. The practices and values were similarly diverse.

While they remain two very distinct product offerings, the growth and development of Islamic banking and finance in recent years has resulted in its emergence as a viable alternative to conventional banking. The modern, wider spectrum of Islamic finance encompasses not only banking activities but also capital market activities, capital formation, and other financial instruments and intermediation. Justice, moral obligation, solidarity, accountability, and equality are cornerstones of the Islamic way of life. Islamic banking is therefore very much focused on “ethical” banking. It promotes fairness and justice with all its stakeholders.

Why it is important:

Islamic banking and finance has emerged in recent times as one of the most fascinating trends in the financial world. With the development of viable Islamic deposit and financing alternatives to conventional (non-Islamic) banking, the potential that this market affords has drawn widespread interest.

As a financial market professional, you should – at the very least – have an awareness of the Islamic banking market and the products on offer. This course will provide you with that awareness. It should be particularly useful to new recruits to institutions involved in any aspect of Islamic banking and finance (commercial or investment banking), as well as anyone selling or marketing Islamic products.

What you will learn:

  1. Islamic Banking Principles and Regulations
  2. Islamic Banking Corporate Governance
  3. Islamic Deposit and Financing Products
  4. Islamic Bank Account types and Principles
  5. Islamic Financing Techniques

Target audience:

Newcomers to Islamic banking and finance who are seeking to become familiar with the principles and concepts; experienced professionals looking to refresh their knowledge or obtain a broad perspective of Islamic banking concepts.
